Women's Self Defense Training

The basic defense workshop presents strategies for avoiding, de-escalating, and, if necessary, physically defending against a threatening and/or violent confrontation. Students will learn and practice awareness skills, threat avoidance strategies, boundary setting concepts, and verbal dissuasion and de-escalation techniques. Just as importantly, students are taught techniques for defending against physical assaults initiated from both a front-on confrontation and a grasping attack from the rear.

The core of the training permits students to apply their skills in scenarios that realistically simulate (within the practical limits of safety) violent confrontations and situations. By utilizing a fully padded instructor playing the role of an assailant, workshop participants are taught to respond spontaneously to unscripted, dynamic situations and to deliver committed, full-force strikes.

The workshops are taught by female and male instructors who, working as a team, generate a supportive and positive learning environment. In this way, each student is afforded the greatest opportunity to quickly assimilate effective self-defense skills and develop a fighting spirit that can be called upon should the need arise.

There are a series of sequential workshops offered, three hours in length, which together constitute a curriculum that includes basic self-defense skills to advanced strategies and techniques to effectively deal with more psychologically and physically stressful situations including escapes from being pinned in the prone position.
